Some techniques are beautiful on their own. Together, they open up a whole new world of possibilities.
This weekend intensive at Scarabajo Botanical Studio in Seattle brings together two complementary approaches to natural color: Eco-Printing from Scratch + Shibori Indigo Dyeing.
Over three days, you'll explore how plants can leave their color, shapes, and marks directly on cloth, then step into the world of indigo with folding, binding, clamping, stitching, resist techniques, and dyeing.
For me, discovering how eco-printing and indigo can live together has opened an entirely new range of possibilities in my own textile practice — and this weekend is an opportunity to explore both.
Learn the foundations of eco-printing, including textile preparation, mordants, working with botanicals, bundling, steaming, and revealing the colors and impressions plants can leave directly on cloth.
Explore Shibori and indigo through folding, binding, clamping, stitching, and resist techniques to create patterns before dipping your textiles into organic indigo.
You'll experience both techniques individually while beginning to understand how they can expand the possibilities of natural color when brought into the same textile practice.
